Classical Automata

Where classical automata are concerned, the Villa could not fail to exhibit some of the world's most beautiful and famous examples. &/#147;Snake-charmer&/#148;, completed by Henri Ernest Decamps in 1890, is one such piece, showing a young Levantine playing a trumpet in an effort to charm a sly reptile. It is flanked by two magnificent and bizarre automata created by Jean-Marie Phalibois and now owned by the Monaco National Museum.
